Levocetirizine diHCl
Indications/Uses
Relief of symptoms of perennial & seasonal allergic rhinitis. Skin manifestations (uncomplicated) of chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Perennial allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria Adult & childn ≥12 yr 5 mg once daily; some patients may experience relief of symptoms w/ 2.5 mg once daily. Childn 6-11 yr 2.5 mg once daily. Max: 2.5 mg/day, 6 mth to 5 yr 1.25 mg once daily. Max: 1.25 mg. Seasonal allergic rhinitis Adult & childn ≥12 yr 5 mg once daily; some patients may experience relief of symptoms w/ 2.5 mg once daily. Childn 6-11 yr 2.5 mg once daily. Max 2.5 mg/day, 2-5 yr 1.25 mg once daily. Elderly Refer to adult dosing; begin at the lower end of the dosing range. Renal impairment Adult & childn ≥12 yr CrCl 50-80 mL/min 2.5 mg once daily, CrCl 30-50 mL/min 2.5 mg once every other day, CrCl 10-30 mL/min 2.5 mg twice wkly (every 3 or 4 days).
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to piperazine derivatives. Severe renal impairment (CrCl <10 mL/min).
Special Precautions
Alcohol consumption. Galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose galactose malabsorption. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <6 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, somnolence, dry mouth, fatigue, sleep disorders, diarrhoea, constipation. 
Drug Interactions
Small decrease in clearance w/ theophylline. Increased extent of exposure w/ ritonavir. CNS effects may occur w/ alcohol or other CNS depressants.
